The
shoeless journey began for me when it was apparent I could no
longer keep my Appendix horse sound in shoes. Her dam had "bad
feet" with White Line Disease, thin soles, chipping walls, and
I was determined to not let my current horse suffer the same
setbacks. I started off by studying all the trimming websites,
books, and videos that I could find. I also studied under a
local farrier. My parents were nice enough to let me work on
their Hanoverians and Thoroughbreds, so a good deal of
practice came from studying their hooves. After a while I
became interested in receiving proper schooling and a trimming
certification. I was introduced to KC LaPierre's school, and
was fortunate enough to be chosen for a Scholarship to the
Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry. I finished the
certification program in 10 months. I enjoy reading studies
and articles from many different sources from trimmers,
farriers, vets, equine nutritionists, and so forth. A person's
greatest asset is always the desire and ability to learn and
grow.
I do long distance trail riding and endurance,
with a dressage background. My husband and I live on a farm in
Northeastern Wisconsin and in addition to the horses, have
three dogs. Our other interest is Chevrolet Camaros. We
collect and restore rare cars and have a great interest in
their history and preservation. We enjoy going to car shows
throughout the summer months. I also have various other
interests such as playing the piano, writing, and photography.
My unfaltering dedication is to the animals that surround me. I am honored and humbled that they allow me to share in this journey we call "life."
